Stroll through the medieval town of Le Castellet

Things to do in Le Castellet - Medieval town

The most wonderful discoveries often begin with a simple stroll. This is precisely the case with this gem that is Le Castellet. As soon as you enter the village, you are charmed, the tone is set, and images of knights come to mind. The ramparts, fortified gates, and narrow streets tell an ancient story, that ofa remarkably well-preserved medieval village that has managed to preserve its way of life while respecting its authenticity.

Here, we wander aimlessly with the simple intention of exploring. The visit is done this way, without a map or compass, but always with eyes wide open and head raised toward the sky. Because in this village, the most interesting thing is undoubtedly the architecture. Medieval facades, a church that seems to touch the sky, arched doorways... With sudden glimpses of the horizon and the surrounding countryside here and there.

Things to do in Le Castellet - Viewpoints

We began to address this topic earlier in the article, and we felt it was essential to present it as an activity in its own right. From its hilltop location, the village is quite simply a privileged vantage point, to say the least : the view takes in the vineyards, the horizon opens up to the Mediterranean, the valleys stand out and, on a clear day, the relief of the Sainte-Baume massif appear as if by magic.

Among our favorite viewpoints is the Trou de Madame is by far our favorite. Attached to the castle, on the highest point of the highest climb, this rounded window seems to have been created for photos! From the balcony below, the panorama stretches 180°C over the Bandol vineyards Bandol, Provence Sud Sainte Baume and the neighboring towns. And this location is not only idyllic, it is also useful. From here, the ladies could watch for the return of their valiant knights.

The guide's tip: in summer and winter alike, come early in the morning or late in the evening. The light is sublime, both on the stone houses and the surrounding landscape, and the city regains an almost secret calm, ideal for fully enjoying its medieval atmosphere.

Bandol wines

Le Castellet is a sublime medieval town offering spectacular views and high-speed thrills, but that's not all. It is also here, in the vineyards and olive groves below the village, that the Bandol Wine Association has made its home. Representing the region's flagship appellation, AOC Bandol, this Provençal wine-growing farmhouse is home to both the administrative management of the estates and visitors in search of wines with character.

So, every spring, the cellar opens its doors to lovers of fine wines. Here, we reveal the richness of the grape varieties, the expertise of the winemakers, and the history of a vineyard shaped by the sun and the mistral wind. As a bonus, the tastings allow you to explore the full diversity of Bandol wines, including red, white, and rosé. And the sales area offers you the opportunity to take home some of your favorite bottles at cellar prices.
