Martror
Martror is an Occitan term that refers to the current Catholic All Saints' Day (November 1), but is also known as the "Feast of Martyrs, of the Dead" or "Fèsto dei Mouart." Tradition has it that at nightfall, residents wander around wearing makeup, dressed as terrifying yet elegant skeletons. Far removed from the Anglo-Saxon tradition of Halloween, Martror pays tribute to the dead by celebrating life. Through this event, the municipality of Le Beausset wanted to promote its historical heritage and revive and perpetuate this custom among the inhabitants so that they could embrace this event and its Provençal identity.
