Assumption Day: fireworks on August 15 in western Var

✅ Good to know: some towns in our destination area do not hold fireworks displays on August 15, but rather during the week of August 20... Why? Because the liberation of Provence did not happen in a single day! These towns and villages prefer to celebrate their own liberation date rather than the official one. So don't be surprised if you're staying in Bandol and the fireworks are scheduled for August 21, or even August 23 in Sanary-sur-Mer.
Our tips for enjoying fireworks in the Var region
To make your summer evening perfect, here are a few local tips you absolutely must know...
- Arrival time: the best viewing spots are quickly snapped up, especially for major national events. So plan to arrive at least 1 to 2 hours before the fireworks... or even 3 to 4 hours if you're on the coast. It's a great excuse to dine out and stop by the night market before enjoying the show!
- Parking: plan your journey in advance. Some city centers and areas around shooting ranges are often closed to traffic and even parking. If possible, the best option is to use public transport or peripheral parking lots.
- Check the latest information: in the Var region, fireworks displays may be canceled or postponed in the event of strong winds, high fire risk , or adverse weather conditions. Before heading out, check the local tourist office websites or social media accounts.
Between the coast and the hinterland, western Var, and in particular the sublime Provence Sud Sainte Baume region (😉), offers a multitude of activities to enjoy the summer. Fireworks are just one facet of the richness of our destination. After a sparkling show, prolong the magic by discovering our night markets, our outdoor concerts, and the flavors of our region in small local restaurants.
