Sainte Agathe, patron saint of the village of Riboux
Sainte Agathe is the emblematic figure of the smallest village in the Var, Riboux. This child of the Church was born in Catania, Sicily, in the 3rd century. From an early age, she dedicated her life to God, choosing to remain a virgin. However, during the persecutions of the Roman emperor Decius (circa 250), a prefect named Quinziano, struck by Agatha's beauty, tried to force her to renounce her Christian conviction and take her as his wife. Agatha steadfastly refused, preferring to endure violence rather than betray her beliefs. She died in prison as a result of the abuse. Legend has it that her faith and prayers brought about miracles, including an earthquake that stopped the torture and frightened her executioners...
Honored the world over, the few residents of the charming village of Riboux have made her their patron saint. As a result, the small village chapel, dedicated to Saint Agathe, is a local place of pilgrimage. This modest church embodies the spiritual soul of the hamlet, and bears witness to the fervor of its inhabitants for their glorious patron saint.

The village of Riboux, which has a population of around 50, has organized a festival in honor of this symbol of resistance and conviction. Every year on February 5, the commune of Riboux organizes a series of festive events for Var residents and visitors alike.
Processions, masses in the charming village chapel and other Provencal traditions are all part of the celebration of Riboux's emblem.
