The medieval Var town of Le Castellet
If there's one village that perfectly reflects our history, it's Le Castellet. Perched on a hill, it's recognizable at a glance by its centuries-old ramparts. Below it, the Bandol AOC estates stretch from the hills of the Sainte-Baume to the sea. The road that takes you there crosses fields of vines for colorful spectacles all year round.
At the summit, the charming village of millions of stones holds at its heart an ancient seigniorial castle dating back to the XVᵉ century, a superb church with a certain cachet, as well as cobbled lanes and breathtaking vistas. This is where villagers went about their daily lives, just a few hundred years ago. And it's here today that you can experience moments suspended between Provence Sud Sainte Baume's historic past and the artisanal boutiques of local designers on every corner.
The Castellet Medieval Festival
Proud of its history and architecture, the town of Le Castellet organizes an annual event that is not to be missed: Les Médiévales. Two days of festivities during which the entire village turns back the clock to the age of knights.
Strolls accompanied by traditional music of yesteryear, shows re-enacting epic scenes from the Middle Ages, re-enactments to give you a better understanding of how Provençals lived in those days, and acrobatics and falconry demonstrations - here's just a glimpse of what's on offer every year. The perfect way to celebrate with friends and family at any time of day or night!
