The history of Bandol wines
It's not for nothing that this celebration takes place in the town of Bandol. And it may not be for the reason you're thinking. Surprising as it may be, there are currently no AOC Bandol wineries in the commune of Bandol. And yet, an entire appellation bears its name.
In the Middle Ages, when grape-growing was developing on our territory, Bandol was still no more than a cargo port adjoining the village of La Cadière d'Azur. While the wine was bottled in this village of character in the Var, the bottles were sent all over the world from the Bandol pier. And so, the lucky ones who tasted this Provencal nectar received cases... of Bandol.
Today, this event is a festive way to go back in time. To reconnect the wine-growing lands of La Cadière d'Azur, Le Castellet, Saint-Cyr-sur-mer, Sanary-sur-mer or even Le Beausset, with the quays of the beautiful town of Bandol.
Bandol Wine Festival
"Discover, taste, meet" is the program proposed by the Bandol Wine Association.
Every first weekend in December, dozens of winegrowers gather at the Bandol harbor for the Fête des Vins de Bandol (formerly known as the Fête du Millésime). On the menu for these two epicurean days:
- Meetings with local winemakerswho are keen to share their love of Mourvèdre and their expertise with you.
- Exceptional tastings of the appellation's finest vintages.
- A competition to choose the three best red wines for ageing.
- And, of course, workshops for the whole family!
