Peonies, the other treasure of Provence Sud Sainte Baume
It's not just the vine and the olive tree that have found happiness in the clay soils of our region. It would seem that, in addition to these two delicate yet robust varieties, there's one flower that feels quite at home here. Several local growers have the pleasure of cultivating peonies all year round. Imagine iridescent fields, from pink to red to white... Now there's another similarity with our local nectar, wine!
Be that as it may, the village of Evenos sets anexample when it comes to peony production. That's why, in 2017, the " Rouge Pivoine " association was born with one ambition: to promote this emblematic beauty of our destination. How? By creating a dedicated day, of course...
Evenos Peony Festival
And so, ever since the association was founded, the peony has been celebrated every spring. May 8, in addition to being an important historical date and a public holiday, is now the day on which this flower is highlighted.
Like the lily of the valley, the peony heralds the return of fine weather, the May bridges that give us a foretaste of the summer vacations, and the return of the sunny, festive life of the Var.
On the programme for this year's festivities you will find :
- Stalls for local producers of peonies, crafts and culinary specialities. The perfect way to combine business with pleasure.
- Fun for all ages.
- Musical strolls and concerts to get your groove on groove it all up!
Come and meet the horticulturists and enjoy a convivial moment dedicated to the most beautiful of plants, the peony!
